LS2600 Global Competence

For degree programme students: Completed LS1600 and approved and completed exchange studies, international placement, Minor Field Studies or the equivalent activity, in Sweden or abroad. For international students in Sweden: Completed LS1600.

The course a continuation of LS1600 Intercultural competence and the students' own experiences from the stay abroad that together with LS1600 constitute entry requirements.

The course gives a specialised understanding of how personal and cultural variation and diversity influence understanding, feelings, decision-making, communication and teamwork, based in theory and experience.

We examine strategies and methods to strengthen inter-cultural understanding and interaction in order to value and utilise personal and cultural differences in a constructive, creative and ethical way.

Emphases during the course are global citizenship, sustainable development, situation-adapted leadership in inter-cultural environments, professional roles, professional ethics and communicative leadership in inter-cultural or interdisciplinary teamwork, and employability.

On completion of the course, the student should be able to:

• Report an understanding of how personal and cultural variation and diversity influence understanding, feelings, decision-making, communication and teamwork, based on theory and experiences.

• Problematise one's own and others' descriptions of culture and identifications based on, for example, gender, nationality, ethnicity, class, age, language and profession, from relevant theories and experiences.

• Work constructively, creatively, ethically and solution-oriented, with critical inter-cultural situations related to multi-disciplinary and inter-cultural teamwork and leadership.

• Critically reflect on how intercultural competence relates to KTH's core values, global citizenship, and sustainable development.

• Report systematically documented and critically self-reflective descriptions of personal inter-cultural experiences and learning relevant for your future working life.
