AF2403 Building Damages
KTH Royal Institute of Technology
Documented knowledge in Building Technology, Building Materials and Building Physics, equivalent to at least 3·times 7,5 ECTS corresponding to the content in courses AF2401, AF1301 and AF1402.
Eng B/6 according to the Swedish upper secondary school system.
The course will give basic and applied training about the different processes that cause damage to buildings and building components. It also points out important methods for repair, restoration and for modifications to avoid future problems.
The lectures will especially highlight the following items:
What is really ment by building damages.
Sick-building investigations
Things to know and things to use, for investigation of damages on buildings
Damage from water, problems and measures to avoid them
Emissions in buildings and health
Damage on the exterior of buildings
Radon, the problem and how to avoid it.
After the course the student will have good understanding about what is meant by building damages.
The student shall be able to illustrate different typical indications relating to building damages, explain the mechanisms behind them and also propose different measures for solving the problems.
In this context it is also included the ability to evaluate the risk for damage for different building constructions.
